French and Dutch Braids: A Step-by-Step Guide

Braids are a timeless hairstyle that can be both stylish and practical. French and Dutch braids are popular options that offer a braided look with added volume and texture.

French Braids

French braids are created by weaving sections of hair into the braid as you go, resulting in a classic and elegant style.

Steps:

  1. Divide your hair: Start by dividing your hair into three equal sections.
  2. Cross the sections: Cross the right section over the middle section, then cross the left section over the new middle section.
  3. Add hair: Pick up a small section of hair from the right side of your head and add it to the right section. Cross the right section over the middle section.
  4. Repeat: Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the left side of your head.
  5. Continue braiding: Continue braiding in this manner until you reach the end of your hair. Secure the braid with a hair tie.

Dutch Braids

Dutch braids are similar to French braids but are created by crossing the sections under each other instead of over. This creates a more prominent and textured look.

Steps:

  1. Divide your hair: Start by dividing your hair into three equal sections.
  2. Cross the sections: Cross the right section under the middle section, then cross the left section under the new middle section.
  3. Add hair: Pick up a small section of hair from the right side of your head and add it to the right section. Cross the right section under the middle section.
  4. Repeat: Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the left side of your head.
  5. Continue braiding: Continue braiding in this manner until you reach the end of your hair. Secure the braid with a hair tie.
